LMPC refers to the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, which mandate registration for pre-packed commodities intended for sale in the Indian market, as well as for imported products that are meant for sale or trading.

Any person who intends to sell pre-packed commodities in the Indian market, as well as any importer importing commodities for the purpose of sale or distribution, is required to obtain this registration under Rule 27 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011

LMPC registration is granted under the following categories:

  1. Manufacturer and Packer
  2. Packer
  3. Importer

LMPC registration is granted by State as well as central Legal Metrology Department.

ONLINE PROCESS OF LMPC REGISTRATION

For LMPC registration process following steps to be followed

Step 1:Collection and preparation of required documents such as

  1. Certification of Incorporation in case of Company and LLP
  2. GST certificate of Entity
  3. PAN of Entity
  4. IEC certificate in case of import
  5. Digital signature certificate
  6. Product list

Step2:-Creation of Login credential

After preparing and collecting all the required documents, the second step is to create login credentials on the portal

Step3:- Upload of Required Documents

On the portal, the requisite documents are required to be uploaded in the prescribed manner.

Step 4:-Payment of Government fee, The Govt. fee of LMPC registration is Rs. 500

Upon receipt of all the documents, the appropriate authority will review them, and if they are found to be in accordance with the prescribed guidelines, the registration certificate will be issued within 5 to 7 working days.

If the authority finds any discrepancies in the documents, it will raise a query, and the applicant is required to respond within the prescribed timeline. If the response is found satisfactory, the authority will issue the certificate..

If the authority is not satisfied with the explanation or the reply to the query, it may reject the application and forfeit the application fee.
